White mucus/thread-like substance in stools can occur due to intestinal infection, parasitic infestation, IBS, or mucus colitis. One episode of blood earlier also needs proper evaluation if symptoms persist.
Next Steps
To to tests such as
-Stool routine microscopy + stool culture
-Stool ova/parasite examination
-CBC, LFT, RFT if symptoms persistent
-If recurrent bleeding/weight loss → Gastroenterology consult ± colonoscopy
To take
-Tab Rifaximin 550 mg BD for 5–7 days
-Probiotic capsule once daily for 2 weeks
-If parasitic infection confirmed → Deworming medicines as advised after stool test
Health Tips
-Drink clean water and avoid outside unhygienic food
-Do not repeatedly self-start antibiotics without diagnosis
-Seek urgent review if blood in stools, fever, weight loss, or abdominal pain increases
-Contact me anytime on Practo for further consultation.
White mucus like substance in stools can occur with many conditions since your stool report came normal earlier, it may not be something serious. However, because it has been for months, it needs proper evaluation rather than repeated self medication. Please consult with me once so I can understand your bowel pattern, diet and previous reports properly and guide you regarding whether this is a simple gut issue or needs further tests treatment.
The 'white substance' you are observing in your stool is most likely Mucus. While the intestines naturally produce mucus to help stool pass, an amount that is visible to the eye for 5 months is often a sign of chronic underlying inflammation or irritation in the colon. Given your history of a bleeding episode that responded to Rifagut (an antibiotic for gut infections), we must rule out conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), persistent Internal Hemorrhoids, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Chronic mucus discharge should not be ignored, especially if it is accompanied by changes in bowel frequency or abdominal discomfort."

White mucus-like substance in stool can occur with intestinal infection, IBS/colitis, constipation, or gut irritation. Since your stool test became normal after treatment and blood was seen only once, it may not be serious, but persistent symptoms for 5 months should not be ignored.
Avoid self-taking antibiotics repeatedly. Maintain good hydration, high-fiber diet, curd/probiotics, and avoid very spicy/oily outside food.
You should consult a gastroenterologist if mucus continues, or if you develop recurrent blood in stool, weight loss, abdominal pain, fever, loose motions, or anemia. Further tests like repeat stool test, colon evaluation/colonoscopy may be needed if symptoms persist.
White mucus in stools for 5 months with a prior episode of blood needs proper investigation despite the normal stool report. Could be IBS, colitis, or polyps.
Get a colonoscopy — 5 months is too long to ignore. Don’t rely only on stool reports. See a gastroenterologist promptly.
