White coated tongue
I am in Indian army and presently posted in KASHMIR ;  have a white coated tongue from last 6 months since i had a sexual intercourse with an unknown girl and had a sore throat for which i was on antibiotics for at least 20 days. Since then i was a white coating on tongue which comes early morning after i wake up and is completely scrap able . I also have inflamed papliae on the back side of my tongue. I consulted some ENTs they said its not thrush and its completely OK . Not to worry. But when i check it on google .it says its a deadly thing to have . What can be the reason i have no other problem other than this. Jai hind

Dear Practo User, 1.There are two reasons for white scrapable coating of the tongue - candidiasis or unclean tongue. If it is candidiasis it is associated with burning sensation and/or chronic systemic illness. 2. As of now whether it is Candidal infection or not use Nystat ointment,  apply to the affected area 4-5 times/ day, clean your tongue daily with a tongue cleaner or your brush itself daily.  3. Observe for improvement and communicate again if needed 4. Go to a nearby medical centre and get a test done for HIV (just to rule out)  5. Your white coating is not deadly.. Sex with an unknown person is!
