Firstly Visit a Physiotherapist at his clinic preferably a Masters in Sports And Musculoskeletal Injuries in your area as close to your home as possible. Let him do a detailed Assessment and evaluation in relation to available range of mom, he will only advice you the kind of snee strap suitable to your mom. Orthopaedic visit will be decided by the Concerned Physiotherapist if his assessment says so. My Clinic is at WaterField Road, Bandra West, Mumbai. You may also connect with me on VC if you want me to do the above steps of assesment and strap advice. Regards Restoring Flexibility Physiotherapy Centre, Dr. Aditya Pardasany.

For your mother's osteoarthritis and knee brace decision, it’s understandable that you'd want to make the best choice for her comfort and support. First of all your should ask ur consultant regarding type of brace as he is the best judge of it. Secondly the braces are good for a smaller time as longer usage can cause atrophy and other complications Here’s a breakdown of what could help: 1. Choosing Between Hinged Braces: Single-Hinged Braces (Left or Right): These are designed to provide extra support to one side of the knee. The choice between a left or right hinge depends on whether she has varus or valgus alignment issues. Varus knee (bow-legged) means the knee tilts outward, putting more pressure on the inner side. Valgus knee (knock-kneed) means the knee tilts inward, putting more pressure on the outer side. If you’re unsure about whether your mom has varus or valgus alignment, it's better to consult a healthcare professional before purchasing the brace to avoid discomfort. Double-Hinged Braces: These provide balanced support on both sides of the knee and are a good option if you’re uncertain about her knee alignment. They distribute pressure more evenly and may be more comfortable for daily activities.

Try to buy one side hinged knee brace, as it will not degrade the muscular tendancies. In both side hinged brace muscles will go in wasting which can decrease the muscular power.
Next Steps
Do hot fomentation along with calcium rich diet.
Health Tips
Do not put it on during night or relaxing.

You can consider a rehab physician ( a doctor who specialises in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation), who can help you with medication, interventional pain management, bracing advice, footwear modifications and activity modification. If the need for surgery arises, an Orthopedic surgeon needs to be referred to.
Next Steps
Consult ASAP before it gets worse
Health Tips
Avoid squatting, cross legged sitting and walking on uneven surfaces

For patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA), the choice between a one-sided hinged brace and a two-sided hinged brace depends on the specific needs and condition of the knee. 1. One-Sided Hinged Brace: Typically beneficial for those with unicompartmental OA (osteoarthritis affecting only one side of the knee). It provides targeted support and can help with alignment and pain relief. 2. Two-Sided Hinged Brace: More suitable for patients with more generalized OA or those needing additional stability across the entire knee joint. It offers more support and can help reduce overall knee strain.

Hello sir, Thanks for the question. We need to understand the VAS before suggesting any brace. But off loader brace is something which really works in the case of osteoarthritis. Also Physiotherapists are the doctors of muscles and soft tissues so you can consult a physiotherapist who can assess and guide her the exercises according to her current muscle strength, body weight and pain. PhysioNautics is the complete physiotherapy solution under one roof. Can contact or email if found the answer helpful

according to your mom's x-rays, the right knee has less space on the medial side like arthritis we can say slight genu valgus in the right knee but not that severe that we can't correct what happened in the bone but we can help her to maintain good strength in the knee hip and ankle joints and reduce the pain so she won't feel any pain I will suggest letting the muscle be a splint but for safety purposes, you can buy a Tynor hinged knee brace with valgus correction but that will make her uncomfortable sometimes if she says uncomfortable please please remove the rodes that present in the sides and kindly get an assessment and rehab exercises from nearby physiotherapist for more details contact
