Vaginal irritation and itching during or after condom use is fairly common and can happen for several reasons. The most common causes are sensitivity to latex, reaction to lubricants or spermicides on the condom, friction-related irritation, or vaginal dryness during intercourse. Even “ultra-thin” condoms like Durex Real Feel Condoms may still cause irritation in some individuals depending on the material or lubricant coating. If symptoms occur mainly after condom use and improve otherwise, then condom-related sensitivity becomes more likely. Repeated irritation can also disturb the vaginal environment and sometimes lead to secondary inflammation or yeast overgrowth, especially if itching continues afterward.
Next Steps
Try switching to a different condom type rather than repeatedly using the same one. Some women tolerate non-latex/polyisoprene condoms, hypoallergenic condoms, or condoms without spermicide much better. Using additional water-based lubrication during intercourse can also help reduce friction-related irritation, even if natural lubrication seems adequate. Avoid flavored, warming, or strongly scented condoms for now, as these can worsen irritation. Also avoid harsh vaginal washes, antiseptics, or excessive cleaning after intercourse, because these can further irritate sensitive skin. Since your gynecologist had already recommended a specific condom previously, it may be worth reconnecting with them if symptoms continue, especially if there is persistent itching, discharge, swelling, or burning even without condom use. Health Tips
Prefer hypoallergenic or non-latex condoms if sensitive. Use adequate water-based lubrication during intercourse. Avoid scented intimate products and harsh soaps. Wear breathable cotton undergarments. Avoid intercourse temporarily if active irritation or itching is present. Most condom-related irritation improves significantly once the triggering material or friction source is identified and avoided properly. Thank you
