I'm having pcos since age 15 and it's still not cured. I got married in 2019 and still trying to conceive. I'm taking progesterone tablets like meprate/provera/ duphaston to get periods. My periods were never regular.once I didn't get period for 7 months. For the past 4 years I'm not getting periods naturally. I'm taking any of these medicines to get periods. I have Only withdrawal bleeding. No natural periods . Does this in future leads to cancer ? Taking progesterone tablets every month to get period is dangerous or what ?

Hi, atleast 4_5 periods in a year is considered ok..
For the conception, you would have to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle with yoga, aerobic exercises, plenty of salads and water and adequate sleep.
If still your periods are not regular, then you must consult a gynecologist for regular periods first, then for infertility.

Pcos never gets cured, it can be kept under controll with lifestyle modifications and medicines. Till now u must b taking progesterone to get ur menses as there was no issue of fertility but now as u wants to conceive only progesterone wont help. So for conception u will require infertility treatment. Not getting menses for prolonged periods is one of risk factor for cancer though risk is very low and infact taking progesterone and withdrawl bleeding reduces that risk. So keep taking progesterone withdrawl bleeding till ur periods get regular or u get pregnant.
Next Steps
dietary modifications (high protein low carb diet)
start treatment for conception
Take proper treatment for PCOD ,,,,, three months try to reduce weight if overweight ,,,, *PCOD*
PCOD is a multi-organ disease which start from ovary in form of small follicles on outer layer of ovary ,, it starts secreting hormones which normally a female body should not secrete ,,,
It is basically a urban problem
The reasons are
1) stress full life
2) irregular life style
3) lack of mental peace
4) no physical exercise
Person suffering from PCOD
Present themselves
1) irregular periods ( sometimes no periods at all )
2) weight gain ( even without taking excess food )
3) No weight loss ( although doing lots of exercise)
4 ) acne
5) hair loss
6) infertility
7) mood swing
8) lethargy
So a vicious cycle forms
More weight -more PCOD
More PCOD-more weight
So somehow we have to break the cycle
50% role of medicine ( intrinsic )
50% role of life style (extrinsic)
If we attack both ways only then it can be cured
So co-operation of patients are very much required.
I give non hormonal treatment for PCOD
Regarding life style
1) stress free life
2) regular life style
3)physical exercise
4) proper sleep
It is very much curable , if treated in time and with full discipline,, lots of my pregnant patients were once case of PCOD.
Normally three months treatment but in few cases it may take longer ,,
Simultaneously we give treatment for PCOD and pregnancy.
Diet has a great role , avoid fat and sugar ,
For proper PCOD diet better take help of dietician ,,,
PCOD is spreading like epidemic in urban areas ,,,
Pcod patients have increased risk of uterine cancer but, taking progesterone will not increase your risk of uterine cancer.
Pcos is a lifestyle problem and you can work on it
Next Steps
Please consult a gynaecologist in person for complete evaluation.
Health Tips
Exercise
Modify your diet, less sugar and fat.
Lifestyle modifications.. Proper sleep, less stress
Hello ,
I will first address your question about the chance of developing cancer in future . Yes , if you continue to not have natural periods for many months at a time you are at a higher risk of developing some cancers like uterine cancer .
The reason being , more circulating estrogen hormone in your body . You can prevent this by ensuring that you get withdrawal bleed once in every 3 months ( minimum ) .
Taking progesterone every month may have some side effects , but it not dangerous .
Next Steps
Now coming to your problem , PCOS . It is the most common hormone disorder in women at present .
To treat your pcos , u need to follow few things .
1 ) balanced diet
2 ) regular exercise ( cardio and strength training )
If you are over weight , losing 5 percent of your current body weight may improve your periods issue .
Since you are planning to start your family now , your doctor will give you medicines to help you ovulate .
Reduce your weight or do daily by gym/45min brisk walk and low carb diet.this is the only option to control hormonal imbalance in pco and see a good fertility specialist. Your purpose should be now pregnancy, so work on it.take it seriously,u hv to help yourself to regular workout, diet.progesterones r not harmful.
Since your weight and BMI are normal you need to know the cause of PCOD. Please do a thyroid test and prolactin tests
Next Steps
Do the following tests dear
1. Serum TSH early morning fasting levels
2. Serum Prolactin
3. Serum LH and FSH on day 2 of periods
Health Tips
Take Tablet Normoz twice a day for three months 30 minutes after breakfast and dinner with a glass of water
Take Cholecalciferol sachet twice a week for 6 weeks 30 minutes after lunch on Monday and Thursday and weekly thereafter for life
Take Syp M2Tone two spoons two times a day with a glass of water 30 minutes before breakfast and lunch
Take a spoon of methi seeds soak up in water over night and take next morning along with the water used for soaking for three months
Your best solution is diet control and exercise. Optimum weight will facilitate your normal periods.
Please understand ,WE created this PCOS by being lethargic and indiscriminate about food.
And WE have the power to cure too
I feel you have been prescribed progesterone to regularise your periods and getting withdrawal bleeding with it is good . Taking any exogenous hormones is not good and it definitely has effects on every system . But specifically if you are anxious about cancer then progesterone and withdrawal bleeding every cycle will help you from having unopposed effect of estrogen .
Hello, welcome to practo, I have read your question and come to know about your concern of iregular periods, one thing I want to tell you that most important criteria of regular periods is hormonal imbalance ,for this you have to change your life style, sleep on time, regular exercise, protein diet, avoid carbohydrates,, sweets, ice creams, pizza, etc and change your sedentary life style. Then only you get your regular periods. For more you can contact me online .
Pcos is actually just a variation of normal. One has to only take care of sugar intake as one may have a tendency to develop diabetes early in life and there is a chance of developing Cancer of endometrium ( inner layer of the uterus which is shed during periods) due to chronic anovulation ( due to lack of ovulation, you are not getting periods monthly).
Taking progesterone is actually protective against cancer endometrium in anovulatory cycles.
So whenever you don't get menses for say 10 - 15 days over your due date, you may take progesterone ( always after being sure that you are not pregnant) by consulting a gynecologist.
By doing so it not only protects one from long term effects of anovulation (cancerous development) but also prevents the heavy and prolonged bleeding that one may have after missing periods for a long time.
Hi,
You are not ovulating,so not getting periods.
Not getting period will increase risk of cancer.
Not tablets.Meet a fertility doctor., Who will give you medicine for inducing ovulation, will call for regular scans.Take treatment for conceiving, you will either get period or conceive. Please do not waste time. Cut down. Sugar, carbs in the diet, more proteins.
Exercise.All the best
