Use of Estradiol gel (HRT)
Hi, my mother is having menopause, periods hadn't come since last 4 years. From few months she is having menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, waking up from sleep, sweating etc. Oral medications gives relief for few days or months and again those symptoms occur. Does she need any other treatment like transdermal gel of estradiol? Can someone throw some light on it's indication to apply and how much time it takes for it to actually work? Thank you so much.

Hello. If it is tolerable , she needs to accept that it is a normal physiological phase that every woman faces in her life time and she can try relaxing by doing meditation or yoga or gardening or whatever she likes to get distracted from the symptoms. Family and loved ones support will surely help. Resist the urge to take  hormone replacement pills. If it is severe consult a doctor regarding pills. Estradiol creams can be applied if she has vaginal dryness, otherwise not needed.Or else you can try recognized herbal menopausal supports too.In such case visit a siddha/ayurvedic/homeopathic physician.
