Call your dentist or the one you wish to go and inquire about the measures they are taking during the pandemic. It is equally safe/unsafe as any other field.  In any case most of the people have started going to their works and even a large section of dentists is also working . Dentists and other doctors are having patients right now almost since 2 months.  So quit fear and be intelligent to choose where to go. And yes no self medication

It isnt safe to take an antibiotic on a whim. The dentist may give you an antibiotic in the course of your treatment anyway. If u are worried due to covid-19, it's best to get a test done before you visit a local dentist. There are a lot of diagnostic centers doing RAPID ANTIGEN TEST, which takes lesser time and rules out covid antigen in your blood. Even though not very accurate/specific, it can rule out the possibility. In the meanwhile, using clove at the site of pain and warm saline rinsing might help you alleviate pain. If that doesn't work, you may consider using basic over the counter pain killers like crocin (or paracetamol 500)
Next Steps
Please visit a dentist. Tooth ache can have a ton of reasons (tip of the iceberg)
Health Tips
Do warm saline rinses, and maybe if required an over the counter pain medication.
