Tooth pain after pregnancy
I recently delivered a baby. My mouth is swollen (I think it's bcos of my wisdom tooth), it has reduced from yesterday though. I'm doing home remedies as I am afraid to take medications during my lactation. How long would it take to subside ? Is there a simpler way to manage this? Is this common after pregnancy? What is the reason if the same? Look forward to response. Thank you

In my opinion the swelling near the region of your wisdom tooth could be either due to decay or pericoronitis(inflammation of tissue overlying the incompletely erupted third molar).Due to pregnancy patients also do complain of having gum related diseases which would eventually subside.
Next Steps
There are medicines which are safe and can be taken during lactation. Tab Clavam 625mg 1-0-1 for 5 days after meals Tab Chymoral-AP 1-0-1 for 5 days after meals Cap Cyra-D. 1-0-1 for 5 days 15 min before meals Apply Rexidin-M forte gel in that region and rinse of after 10 min.
Health Tips
Warm saline water rinsing 2-3 times a day would also help.

Yes it is basically due to hormonal changes that takes place...first of all you need complete oral prophylaxis. Avoid taking any unprescribed medication. Just use warm saline water at home. Will explain all procedure in details. Connect me through chat box.

Wisdom tooth ache is very common. If blood pressure within normal limits, do warm water salt gargling zeveral times a day, if it helps relieving symptoms. I if BP is high, avoid salt in this process. Betadine gargle, 5-10 drops in mouth, hold for 2-3 minutes and spit out. Do not eat drink or rinse for next half an hour. Once a day for 1 week, after meal. Followed by once in every 2 days. T. Parasafe 650, maximum 3 tablets per day, if pain. and antacid.
Health Tips
Do not do Hot compression/balm/ointment application extra-orally on cheek region. Luke warm water gargle a few times per day, only if it's relieving the symptoms, even partially. Avoid hard/hot/cold/sweet/sticky food. Soft diet. Do not neglect brushing twice daily, after food. If difficulty in opening mouth/swallowing hold mouthful of luke warm  water for a minute.

Hello Ma'am , Welcome to Practo., Congratulations  for the baby first of all ,best wishes. Yes you are certainly corrects certain medications can interfere as you are a lactating mother .  I would prescribe as less medications as possible . -  Warm saline gargle 2-3 times  a day - Dressin Mouthwash  ( relieves pain) twice after brushing . -Brush gently and donot forget to floss. - Tab Paracitamol 500mg  Sos It might take minimum of 3-4 days to subside if you follow. As I am not prescribing medications  ,effects  of these remedies might not be long lasting but You will be relieved once you do these . Actually Ma'am  during pregnancy swollen gums are common because of hormonal.changes ,  poor oral hygiene maintenance  may be a reason or as You are 31 years of age   ,those third molars might be impacted , swollen gums  may add for  cause inflamation &  pain  because of bacterial accumulation. Kindly post a query if you need any more help .  Stay healthy  maintain oral hygiene . "A healthy mother leaads to a healthy baby ". Take care Ma'am .
Health Tips
-Avoid Sticky or sweet food. -Rinse always whenever you eat .

Gum problems are very common during pregnancy, you can have current problems aggravating or new dental problems coming up pertaining to the hormonal spikes and increased activity of hormones during pregnancy. It's fine if you dont want to take medicines. In my opinion, a wisdom tooth that cause problem should be taken out ASAP but you can follow these steps if you want to avoid visiting a dentist for some time, but not longer.
Next Steps
1. warm salt water rinses 3-4 times a day 2  clove oil to relieve pain over the wisdom tooth area, to massage atleast once daily or whenever it pains 3. oral rinses with a chlorhexidine mouthwash 4. topical anesthetic gels like oint. mucopain to massage over the wisdom tooth area especially to relieve pain while eating
Health Tips
1. avoid sleeping turning on the affected side 2. do not cup your cheek with your palm as we mostly do in case of tooth pain. any external heat can cause swelling
