Platelets are a bit high. This with low haemoglobin and a low MCV is highly suggestive of iron deficiency anaemia.
Take a course of oral iron for sulphate 200 mg once a day and get a blood test for haemoglobin electrophoresis.
All the best.

Dear Patient,
Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects hemoglobin production. To confirm or screen for thalassemia, the following tests are commonly done:
Screening Tests
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): Checks hemoglobin level, red blood cell count, and size (MCV, MCH). Microcytic anemia may suggest thalassemia.
- Peripheral Blood Smear: Examines red blood cell shape and size for abnormalities.
Confirmatory Tests
- Hemoglobin Electrophoresis: Detects abnormal types of hemoglobin and helps identify alpha or beta thalassemia.
- High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC): Measures different hemoglobin fractions accurately.
- Genetic Testing: Detects specific gene mutations responsible for thalassemia; used in uncertain cases or for family planning.
Consult me
- If you or your child have persistent anemia, fatigue, or pale skin
- Family history of thalassemia or related blood disorders
- Planning pregnancy and want to check carrier status
