Doctor has prescribed taxim o forte dry syrup for diarrhoea in 7 year old kid. Can that be given for painful stomach followed by loose stools in children? As one of the major side effects of the medicine is diarrhoea and nausea

Depends on how the diarrhoea is and whether it is accompanied by fever, blood, mucus etc. It will be difficult for anyone to tell you for sure if antibiotics are indicated going only by the information you’ve provided. It would be better if child is examined and treated in person. If you have doubts about your doctor’s prescription please see another doctor you can trust. If antibiotics are indeed required then mild side effects shouldn’t stop you from treating your child’s infection. Take care

Hi If the loose stools are without blood or mucus , high grade fever, antibiotics are better avoided. However the side effects are not that evident in daily practice.
