Swelling after oral surgery is a common occurrence and can persist for several months during the healing process. The presence of swelling, especially if there is no pain and you can chew without difficulty, could indicate that the area is still undergoing healing and possibly bone formation.
During the healing process after oral surgery, the body forms new bone and soft tissue to repair the surgical site. This can result in some residual swelling, which gradually subsides over time. It's important to note that everyone's healing process is different, and the duration of swelling can vary from person to person.
If you have concerns about the swelling or if it persists for an extended period of time without improvement, it's advisable to consult with your oral surgeon or dentist. They can evaluate the surgical site, review your medical history, and provide specific guidance based on your individual circumstances.
It's also important to follow any post-operative instructions given to you by your surgeon or dentist, including proper oral hygiene practices and any prescribed medications, to support the healing process. They can monitor your progress and address any concerns you may have.
