Suggestion needed for 2nd surgery.
Dear Sir / Ma'am, My mother has gone through one surgery 1 month back and got the left lobe removed. It was related to thyroid. Now, doctor said that we need to remove the entire thyroid gland and it can cause voice problems related to vocal cord. Kindly see the attached report and suggest whether 2nd surgery is truly required or not because going through such a major surgery can cause lot of dependency on medicines post opeeation.

A completion surgery is most definitely required to ensure complete removal of cancer. Injury to nerve supplying the vocal cord is a known complication of this surgery so it's the responsibility of the surgeon to warn you about it, but that doesn't mean it will happen for sure.

Yes. Please go ahead with completion thyroidectomy as your biopsy reveals hurthe cell carcinoma and T3a. There is always that risk of voice change for thyroid surgery, which is explained to the patient. But in good surgical hands, that chance is less than 1 percent. You need to undergo because of this tumour type and stage. When both lobes are removed, the followup monitoring after surgery also is more reliable.
Next Steps
go ahead with completion surgery
