Strep throat
My 15 month daughter got fever from past 7 days.fever is coming at interval of 6,9,12 hours.Paed said that she is having strep throat. She also started having loose stool for 3 to 4 times a days after starting antibiotics. How long the fever is going to continue

If it is confirmed strep throat, then the doctor might have prescribed Amoxicillin or augmentin which may cause diarrhea. Fever will start responding within 24-48 hours. Take sporolac and zinc syrup for diarrhea along with ors. Give banana and curd with food.
Next Steps
if the fever does not improve within 48 hours or atleast the frequency is not reducing it might be wise to reconsult the doctor and get some blood tests done.

Fever lasting more than 5 days needs re-evaluation. Sometimes, children may start with a viral infection, but if it doesn’t settle or worsens, we need to rule out:
A bacterial infection that may need a different antibiotic
A viral illness like dengue or enterovirus
Hidden infections like UTI, ear infection, or something else
Antibiotic associated diarrhea is quite common
She will need further evaluation with blood and urine tests
Next Steps
Syp zinc 20mg/5ml, give 5ml once daily for 14days
ORS sachet in 1L water to prevent dehydration
Continue soft, easily digestible foods like curd rice, dal rice, banana, continue breast feeding

Strep throat is diagnosed after a throat swab either through a rapid test or a culture. If such was the case and confirmed it is logical to start relevant antibiotic which is usually contains amoxicillin/ augmentin. The diarrhea can be secondary to it
Next Steps
If strep throat is confirmed and the baby is on antibiotics please try to take twice a day form of Augmentin. It causes less diarrhea. Add a probiotic like Vizilac / Sporolac twice a day. Encourage curd/ yoghurt with active culture in it
Fever will respond in 48-72 hours after starting the antibiotic

Since when you started antibiotics ? There should be symptomatic improvement atleast after 48-72 hours of starting treatment if it is strept throat.if it is not the case review the doctor,do blood investigation, reconfirm the diagnosis
