Stopping Statin 5mg
Hello Doctor, I'm 33 years old male. I have high cholesterol close 280 three months back. But I'm not diabetic. My general physician suggested me to start taking Rosuvastatin 5mg. I check my cholestol after an month of statin therapy, the levels were under control. Again I checked it after 2 months of statin therapy. It was under control. And for your information I was overweight. BMI was close to 30. But in these 3 months I started dieting. And also walking 30 mins a day. Reduced my weight around 5 kilos. And also reduced the amount of food intake. Completely avoided junk food, mutton and all. Also an additional information is my dad had an open heart surgery when he was 63. He was diabetic since he was 35. Which means I have a family history. My question is. Is it safe for me to stop this Rosuvastatin 5mg (Lipirose) and keep focusing on diet and lifestyle modifications. Bcoz I wake up with headache everyday, also have got sore back in these 3 months. Kindly advice.

Rosuvastatin is safe to use and should be continued if you have a family history. Cholesterol can be managed with diet and exercise also. But there is no harm in continuing rosuvastatin. Headaches can be due to some other reason. Please check your blood pressure. Sore back can be due to the walks that you have started recently. It will die out in time.
