My finance went to dr today severe cramping and swelling in abdomen they prescribed bentyl and protonix insurance didn't cover that one we got nexuim X-rays looked normal maybe some stool he's been going to bathroom normal I'm afraid it's diverculutis and he needs metranidozole he has had that once befor in early his 20s he's now 43

If he is passing stools and there is no vomitting , he should be good in couple of days with symptomatic treatment, without antibiotics. A bare minimum usg or CT is required to diagnose diverticulitis.
