Pain after a healed nail-prick wound (especially in diabetics) is commonly due to deep tissue inflammation, nerve irritation, or a small retained foreign body not visible on X-ray. Since the skin has healed and sugars are controlled, active infection is less likely, but it still must be ruled out.
Next Steps
1. Get USG (ultrasound) or MRI of the foot to rule out deep infection, foreign body, or bone involvement (osteomyelitis).
2. Consult an orthopaedic surgeon or foot specialist.
3. Blood tests: ESR, CRP, CBC.
4. Pain control with NSAIDs / neuropathic pain medication if advised by doctor.
5. Continue strict sugar control and avoid pressure on the area.
Health Tips
• Do not ignore persistent pain in a diabetic foot.
• Avoid barefoot walking.
• Seek urgent care if swelling, redness, warmth, fever, or discharge appears.
• Early diagnosis prevents chronic infection or complications.
