Starting formula for my 3 month old baby
I have exclusively breast fed my baby so far. She was 2.5 kg during birth and 4.6 kg at 3 months+ 1 week. Recently her night sleep changed, her first stretch is around 2.5 - 3 hrs, then she wakes up every 1 h nearing wake up time she wakes up every 30 minutes. I got no sleep for the past two weeks. Since last week she's not taking feed properly, my pediatrician said it's due to gas build up and gave meds for 5 days. Now she started to feed properly again. Since I started this she's passing so much gas, during night sleep she screams while passing gas. So even the minimal fragmented sleep I get is very disturbed I don't know how long I can survive like this. People are saying that she's wakes up often because she's growing and gets hungry often, I'm planning to offer formula only before bedtime , so she atleast gets one good stretch. During night wakings I'm planning to breastfeed only. I want formula and quantity recommendation that doesn't cause gas, constipation or obesity.

Hello there, this situation matches the sleep regression. Sleep cycles mature, baby wakes more frequently, light sleep increases, easier arousals Cluster feeding or distracted feeding can happen Gas discomfort can feel worse at night, this is not because your milk isn’t enough. Formula does NOT guarantee longer sleep  Sometimes it can increase gas (especially if baby is already gassy) First try proper latch check, burp after every feed (even at night),keep baby upright 15–20 min after feed, avoid overfeeding in one go Second if not , go with colicaid drosp 0.5 ml at night. Along with tummy time in daytime, bicycle legs, gentle tummy massage, holding baby upright. Third if not, can use formula milk, Nan comfort or similac total comfort formula. You can do online consultation and get prescribed if still things are not working

Regarding your query i wanted to assure you that this is normal which we say as cluster feeding ( baby keeps on demand the feed and sleep gots disturb) usually happens when baby is growing … Regarding gas issues due to colic you just need to take few precautions like tummy time / tummy exercise/ burp properly after feed / in case of formula like just give a good quality formula which has probiotic in it helps in releiving gas ..

Greetings The symptoms of frequent waking and screaming while passing gas are consistent with infantile colic, gastroesophageal reflux, or a 4-month sleep regression. To help, you might try frequent burping, "bicycle legs" exercises, or gentle tummy massages, but always double-check the physical label of any medications for correct usage. Before introducing formula, which could potentially worsen digestive issues, it is important to consult your pediatrician in person
