Single episode of blood-streaked sputum can occur due to minor causes such as throat irritation, gum/oral bleeding, or forceful coughing, and is not always from the lungs.

Coughing blood may be due to spurious hemoptysis from oral cavity or may be from lower reapiratory tract. This has to be definitely differentiated.

If you are coughing up blood,it’s better to visit a pulmonologist. We might have to do something called as CT scan to look for various pathologies which we don’t get to see in CXR
