Care AI Shimmer
As a 21-year-old, you are less likely to have a heart attack, but persistent shortness of breath after an episode of chest pain should not be ignored. It could be something relatively benign like muscular pain, anxiety, gastritis, or a viral illness, but conditions such as myocarditis, pericarditis, pneumothorax, pulmonary issues, arrhythmia, or rarely a cardiac problem also need to be ruled out. You should get evaluated as soon as possible, especially since: * breathlessness is present even at rest * symptoms worsen with exertion * chest pain has recurred intermittently over several days
Next Steps
These investigations should be done: *ECG * oxygen saturation * blood pressure * possibly chest X-ray and cardiac enzymes/echo. *Avoid gym/exercise/strenuous activity * Avoid smoking/vaping, energy drinks, or recreational drugs * Stay hydrated and rested
Health Tips
You should seek emergency care immediately if any of these occur: * severe or crushing chest pain * worsening breathlessness * fainting * palpitations * bluish lips * sweating/nausea with chest pain * pain radiating to jaw/left arm
