Severe nausea and vomit during periods
My 13 year old daughter is suffering from severe nausea and vomiting during her menstruation from June 2024. She got her first periods in November 2023, for first 5 to 6 months they were normal . She didn’t even complained about cramps. But in June 2024 the vomit and nausea started for the first time. From then every month 5 to 6 hours after her periods start she vomits. For first 10- 12 hours she vomits 1 or 2 vomit in an hour, then the vomit reduces, but she remains nauseous for full 5 days. And she sleeps a lot from the first day only. After 5 days she is completely normal until her next cycle begins . One more thing from June 2024 till this month there were 4 such months when these symptoms didn’t turned up with her periods and the periods were normal. Please help .

I understand how worrying this must be — seeing your child vomit every month is very stressful. From what you describe, this sounds like severe menstrual-related vomiting (primary dysmenorrhea / hormonal trigger) — common in early teenage years when cycles are still settling. The pattern (starting soon after periods begin, then resolving completely) strongly points to a hormonal prostaglandin response, not something dangerous — especially since she’s totally normal between cycles.
Next Steps
• Get basic tests done: CBC, ferritin, thyroid, ultrasound pelvis • She may need anti-vomiting medicine + pain control started BEFORE periods begin • If severe, short-term hormonal regulation may be advised • Keep her hydrated during episodes (ORS, small sips)
Health Tips
This is treatable — she doesn’t have to suffer every month. But because vomiting is intense and lasting days, don’t ignore it. Early treatment prevents worsening and school disruption.
