My 10 yrs old son (mild autistic) got first epilepsy at the age of 10. We took him to Dr Sabharwal sgrh hospital and started tegrital cr 300 mg morning and evening. After almost an year again the same attack occurred and we found my son has gained too much weight after this medicine and the doctor has added another tablet called Encorate Chrono 300 mg two times along with the Tegrital 300. I was looking for a second opinion considering my child health and wanted to know if the medication is correct and if so, how can we control the weight gain. Or we need to change the medication. Please advise.
Pls note there is no jerk or stiffness noticed so far. But the legs and hands become cold during the seizure. Another thing is, we have been noticing that his laziness had increased a lot now a days. Not sure if this is because of the carbamazepine.

Thanks.
