Redness around cut
My father suffered a cut on his left leg during his morning walk. He doesn't know how and when he got cut. This happened 8 days ago. Now there is redness around the area and he says it's very itchy. It also pains occasionally. Please suggest what this is exactly and what shall I do to resolve this problem. He is 54 yr old, diabetic and had a CABG done last year. Thanks.

You have not mentioned any medicine for diabetes though he is diabetic. Unawareness of wound may suggest sensory neuropathy and need evaluation. I think he have applied some bandaid to the wound which have caused hypersensitivity reaction .Else fungal infection or suppurative wound infection with underlying cellulitis due to staph or streptococci bacteria is a possibility.
