I have a pug female 4yr old last year we got her spayed. After few months of spaying discharge started coming from her vulva. We took her to vet. We got the ultrasound done. There were struvite crystals. Her vetlife struvite diet was started and antibiotic treatment was given. She got fine then. But after few months again discharge started coming and again antibiotic therapy was given. It's been recurring again and again. When antibiotic is given it gets fine but after few days discharge starts coming again. We got her ultrasound done again. There were struvite sand like particles in bladdar. We are giving her struvite diet. Why the uti is recurring? What should we do to stop the recurring uti.? Giving antibiotic again and again may be is not a good option

Urinary tract infections are always tough and tricky to treat. Once the infection enters the system, it will keep on recurring due to so many underlying causes. One among the cause is stones or crystal. It is not advisable to blindly go for antibiotic therapy for recurring uti cases. It is better to go for culture and ABST test from specific antibiotic selection and treat this issue effectively.
In dogs, struvite bladder stones usually form as a complication of a bladder infection caused by bacteria that produce an enzyme known as urease. To treat this Long-term antibiotic therapy along with Diet is required..if you use short course of antibiotics the infection reooccurs..pls do Culture test to determine the type of bacteria can start antibiotic course..it should be given approx for a one month and repeat culture test again..follow the Struvite diet all along..
Generally in case of struvite stones recurrent uti is common as these stones form mainly because of recurrent bladder infection...... without seeing USG and Radiographs it's very difficult to advise.... please do continue with struvite diet and urine culture test will give you good option in selecting an antibiotics.
