Recurrence of pilonidal sinus
Hello, I had a surgery for pilonidal sinus in March 2018. It has been 9 months since my surgery. I am starting to feel itchiness and irritation at the same point (between the buttocks, just below the tail bone) 1. Should i be concerned and visit a doctor? 2. If this is the pilonidal sinus coming again, is there any medication for it to heal it completely or do i have to go through the surgery again? 3. Is there any medication or measures to be taken to prevent it from coming back in the future?

There is possibility that Pilonidal sinus has recurred. So you should see a doctor. If he confirms that it is Pilonidal Sinus then you should not repeat surgery for it. It is a known fact that in about 20-25 % cases Pilonidal Sinus recurs after surgery. However it can be completely treated by Graded Ksharsutra Treatment. In this treatment; Graded Ksharsutra - a specialized medicated thread is placed in sinus tract. Medicine released from Ksharsutra debrides the sinus tract and induces healing. This medicine works for 5-7 days. So old Ksharsutra needs to replaced by a new one at a week or ten days interval. No. of Ksharsutra changes required for complete healing of sinus tract depends on depth, direction and branching pattern of sinus. No hospitalization or bed rest is required in this treatment. You can continue your normal routine activities as usual during this treatment. For further support and appointment you may call reception at Sushruta Ano rectal institute.
