I have a RCT in 2014. Now I observed there is swelling in gums under it. I went for checkup yesterday and according to x-ray the doctor told me there is tooth abscess in tip of root canal and she suggest me a re-treatment by adding that it is risky also and not assured if swelling will treated permanently. I want to ask if there is alternate treatment for this problem or if there is chance of permanent relief from this problem by re-treatment. Plz suggest

Hi Sir/Mam is it a front tooth or molar , in abscess case difficult to assure the life of the teeth , depending on the size of the abscess, you should have attached the X-ray also , would have been more easy to suggest what to do next , re root canal is not successfull unless it is properly done , if it's front teeth I would suggest apisectomy I.e cut the root tip along with abscess, if it's molar I suggest hemisectomy is nothing but removing that perticular teeth which has abscess, saving rest portion of root and teeth , Dr.Venkat VDENTIS DENTAL CARE , HYDERABAD

Hello, i think the hospital that you went was a government hospital or a charitable one. because no doctor in this world will wait for 1 month to start as it can lead to further complications like space infection. well that is a differnt story. lets come to tour problem. it can be done with re-rct with ease if the infection is for first time if it is a recurring procedure or any instrument breakage is there then may be we have to go for a minor periapical surgery ( surgery at root area of teeth). or otherwise one root can be saved. i mean at any cost your teeth can be saved. depending upon infection
You should go for retreatment. Re RCT are successful if done properly and if the cause of failure is addressed adequately. Re RCT in competent hands is the treatment for you.
