Rabies scare
A week back, a dog that lives near my building in my society licked my hand and her tooth touched my skin. It was only for 2-3 seconds, i immediately pulled my hand away. I checked my hand there was no bite mark nor any scratch and my skin was intact. I washed my hand immediately with Dettol twice and applied antiseptic cream for precaution. But now I am anxious if I should get the vaccination or not. Also I have a LASIK surgery scheduled for the day after tomorrow.

Hi, the risk of rabies is extremely low. Relax and go ahead with your LASIK as planned. Feel free to consult for further guidance.

If no scratch or bite, no risk of rabies. However if there is slightest doubt of a scratch,  go for vaccination.

If your skin was completely intact with no break, scratch, or bite mark, the risk of rabies transmission from a dog lick is essentially zero — the rabies virus cannot penetrate unbroken skin. You also took the right steps by washing immediately with antiseptic. A lick on intact skin is classified as the lowest risk category of animal contact and does not typically require vaccination. That said, if you are unsure whether the skin was truly intact, it is always safer to get vaccinated.
Next Steps
Mention this incident to your LASIK surgeon before the procedure as a routine precaution. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation if you have any concerns.

You do not need to worry about this incident affecting your LASIK surgery the day after tomorrow. Because your skin remained intact, there is no active infection to complicate surgery. Even if a doctor decides to give you a precautionary rabies vaccine just to ease your peace of mind, rabies vaccines are inactivated (killed) vaccines. They do not cause viral illness and do not interfere with localized, elective surgeries like LASIK.
