Hi, my name is Kunal. My sister, aged 47 had a pain on the left breast for almost 5 years (which we also got to know couple of days back). Y'day she visted a gynae for a different reason. Then the doctor has asked my sister to go for an fnac test. There is not much of a pain there. Question is, should we consult another doc before going for the test?

HELLO,
MAMMOGRAM
FOR FNAC YOU CAN CONSULT A GENERAL SURGEON.
ITS A NEEDLE BIOPSY, FOLLOWED BY HISTOPATHOLOGICAL EXAMINATION WHICH GIVES YOU AN IDEA WHETHER ITS
BENIGN
OR CARCINOMATOUS
SO AS TREATMENT. OK.

Before fnac you should go for mammography (ultrasound of both breast) that will rule out that the lump is cancerous or benign (non-cancerous). Only after confirmation from ultrasound you should proceed further.
If the periods have stopped of your sister?
Also go for few more test like s. estrogen/estradiol ( which normally should be in menopausal stage- if periods of your sister have stopped) , s. Prolactin. TFT,
Next Steps
go for mammography both breast and test advised above before FNAC . in my experienceas unless confirmed by sonography or CTscan FNAC should not be done beforehand.
