Hello! I feel that my right side parotid gland area is increased in size than left side cheek.. i visited dentist but he said all is ok. He even did OPG xray and say tha there is no need to worry! And there is no need for MRI. I jus have one question do my dentist is 100% sure that everything is okay looking at OPG xray? My weight is 130 kgs. Is it because of that my i feel some heaviness in right side of cheek near parotid gland area?
I have attached OPG XRAY as well! Please go through it and tell me. Thanks.

Hello,
I understand your concern. Let me clarify this in a simple way.
An OPG (panoramic X-ray) mainly shows teeth and jaw bones. It is useful to rule out dental infections, cysts, bone lesions, or large calcified salivary stones. However, it does not clearly show the parotid gland itself, as it is a soft tissue structure.
If your dentist has examined you clinically and the OPG is normal, that is reassuring — it means there is no dental or bony cause for the swelling.
Now regarding your symptoms:
• Mild facial asymmetry is very common.
• At a body weight of 130 kg, uneven fat distribution in the cheek region can definitely make one side appear slightly fuller or feel heavier.
• If there is no pain, no increase in swelling during meals, no fever, no dry mouth, and no hard palpable lump, then a serious parotid gland issue is less likely.
Parotid gland problems usually present with:
• Pain or swelling while eating
• Noticeable progressive enlargement
• Tenderness
• Occasionally fever
If you are still anxious, the next appropriate investigation (if required) would be an ultrasound of the parotid region, not MRI. Ultrasound is simple, affordable, and sufficient in most cases.
At present, based on your description, there does not seem to be an alarming concern. However, if you notice increase in size, pain, or any new symptoms, consult an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon or ENT specialist for evaluation.
Hope this helps.
