Going by the description that you have mentioned it seems that your tooth is affected by Irreversible pulpitis and will require root canal treatment so that the symptoms can be alleviated permanently. Do not wait for the symptoms to aggravate further because medications will only provide temporary symptomatic relief but will not cure this problem. Every cavity in tooth starts from a pin point size and slowly grows to involve the nerves causing pain or discomfort, but this happens over a period of months and basically reaches the stage because of lack of treatment at an earlier stage. The cavity is quite old but the symptoms have appeared in the last two or three days because the infection has reached the nerves now. Regards.
Next Steps
please visit a dentist as soon as possible.
