The remaining root must be removed immediately for healing to occur. Regarding the cavity on adjacent tooth, the cavity or the decay has to be removed and filled with composite.
Next Steps
Consult Maxillofacial Surgeon to remove the root stump followed by restorative or general dentist for the filling.
Health Tips
Keep the socket clean, gargle with warm water and salt.

Hello
The cavity will heal on its own. But the root stump that is still in your mouth must be removed as early as possible.
Next Steps
Go to an oral surgeon ( not a BDS but MDS) for painfree removal of the root stump.
Health Tips
helpful tip - apply some clove oil on a cotton and place on the remaining root stump for half an hour. it will sooth its nerve, which will help in your pain and swelling.
caution - do not let anything get stuck in the cavity. rinse your mouth with warm saline water after meals .

Based on the clinical history and the attached radiograph, there appears to be a retained root stump of the extracted third molar. As per standard oral surgery guidelines (Peterson’s Principles of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery), retained root fragments can lead to persistent pain, inflammation, and delayed socket healing.
Next Steps
Recommended Treatment:
• Surgical removal of the remaining root under local anesthesia
• Thorough socket debridement
• Evaluation of the adjacent second molar for caries — may require filling or RCT depending on depth
Early intervention prevents infection, swelling, or abscess formation.
Health Tips
Do not delay, as fibrous tissue formation can make removal slightly more difficult later.
Kindly consult an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for proper clinical evaluation and management.
