Pain around flesh of  last tooth
Dear doctor I am 37 years old and suffering pain at flesh at the last tooth when i swallow the food. This is happening for last three days. I visited the dentist and he gave me some medication and advised me for OPG X ray. After the X ray doctor told me that there is a need to remove the last teeth as it is the wisdom teeth and coming up with breaking the flesh. He told me that is why I feel extrem pain while swallowing the food. Now my question is , is it really necessary for removal of teeth? I really not want to remove the same tooth as i am so scared. If it is extremely necessary to remove, can i bear the pain ? Pls tell me about  this and is there any bad consequences after the removal of teeth?

Hi. You can go for Operculectomy if your teeth are erupting in the proper position. Kindly share OPG and pic of the area causing issues for better suggestions.

Pericoronitis is a condition characterized by inflammation and infection of the soft tissues surrounding a partially erupted or impacted tooth, most commonly the third molars (wisdom teeth). It occurs when bacteria and food particles become trapped between the gum tissue and the partially erupted tooth, leading to infection, swelling, pain, and difficulty in opening the mouth. Symptoms of pericoronitis may include pain, swelling, redness, bad breath, difficulty in chewing or swallowing, and a foul taste in the mouth. It typically requires treatment to alleviate symptoms and prevent complications. Treatment options include cleaning the affected area, antibiotics to control the infection, pain management, and in some cases, extraction of the impacted tooth. If you suspect you have pericoronitis or are experiencing any dental issues, it’s important to consult a dentist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Next Steps
The treatment of pericoronitis typically involves a combination of measures to alleviate symptoms, control infection, and prevent further complications. Here are some common treatment approaches: 1. Warm saline rinses: Rinsing your mouth with warm saltwater helps to cleanse the area and reduce inflammation. 2. Antibiotics: If the infection is severe or spreading, your dentist may prescribe antibiotics to control the infection. It's important to take the full course of antibiotics as prescribed. 3. Pain management: Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help alleviate pain and reduce swelling. Follow the recommended dosage instructions. 4. Dental cleaning: Your dentist may clean the affected area by removing any debris or food particles that may be causing the infection. This can help promote healing. 5. Extraction: In some cases, if the pericoronitis recurs frequently or becomes severe, extraction of the impacted tooth may be recommended. This prevents further episodes of pericoronitis and associated complications. It's essential to consult a dentist if you suspect you have pericoronitis or are experiencing any dental discomfort. They will assess your condition and provide appropriate treatment options based on the severity of your symptoms and the underlying cause.

It's important to consult with your dentist for a proper evaluation and personalized advice regarding your specific situation. Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, often cause problems when they don't have enough space to fully emerge or if they emerge at an awkward angle. If your dentist has recommended the removal of your wisdom tooth due to it causing pain while swallowing, it may be because the tooth is impacted or partially erupted, causing irritation to the surrounding tissues. While I cannot assess your specific condition, your dentist's recommendation for extraction is typically based on their professional judgment and assessment of the situation. Wisdom tooth extraction is a common procedure, and many people undergo it without significant issues. The removal is usually performed under local anesthesia, so the procedure itself is not typically painful. However, the recovery period after the extraction can vary from person to person. Some individuals experience mild to moderate discomfort, swelling, and bruising, which usually subsides within a few days to a week. Your dentist can provide you with specific information about the expected recovery process and any potential complications based on your individual case. If you have concerns or fears about the procedure, it's important to discuss them openly with your dentist. They can address your specific concerns, explain the procedure in detail, and discuss any sedation or pain management options that may be available to help you feel more comfortable during the extraction. Ultimately, it's best to follow the advice of your dentist, who has evaluated your condition and recommended extraction based on their professional judgment.

last tooth or wisdom tooth removal is a problematic tooth if it starts hurting once, firstly, it is very hard to maintain cleaning around it because toothbrush cannot access secondly the wisdom teeth are more often tilted which makes the cleaning impossible hence that tooth end up harboring a lot a plaque and tartar around itself ultimately causing severe pain and reduced mouth opening due to inflammation. It is necessary to remove the tooth otherwise infection in few cases results in reduced mouth opening followed even by swelling which is visible on the cheek. there are no consequences to removal of last tooth till you follow the instructions and medications judiciously as prescribed by the doctor.
