My mother is suffering with osteomyeletis of left lower jaw since past 3 yrs. She underwent 2 dedebriment surgeries but still the disease is not cured. Now docs are advising complete jaw replacement which is not only lengthy, complex and expensive, but there's no surety that it would get completely cure and there are many side effects.Considering her age and this continuous pain taking a toll on her health, both my mom and rest of the family members are against this surgery. Is there any other mode of cure for her?The disease is spreading and has now aproached the ears.So apart from regular jaw-bone pain with a lumpy jaw (the jaw and face is swollen and very difficult to open mouth), she now gets severe head-aches. She's on pain killers and antbiotics.
I got to know about alternative treatments like HBOT from a friend who said it cures such complex disease like osteomyeletis. However I want a confirmation from a doctor on same and if truely this is the cure, then how many sessions etc re

Hello..... Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is recommended for many diseases .....if she is not fit for surgery physician wouldn't issue fitness certificate ..... Surgeon would also replace the infected bone with new metallic piece... HBOT is using hyerbaric oxygen to kill germs... But you have to ask concerned doctor about pros and cons as this technology is used in specialised hospital.
