Need second opinion about prescription
Hi Sir/Madam, My wife is 7 weeks pregnant and has been prescribed Susten SR 300 from week 4. The tablet has too many side effects which she has been facing (such as dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, bloating, abdominal pain, vomiting, metallic taste in mouth, loss of appetite, hot flushes, acidity, gassiness and occasional headaches). I would like to know what purpose this tablet serves during early pregnancy, whether it is compulsory to have it and when can I expect to be asked to stop taking it? Thanks in advance, Sriram

When you take a particular medicine always there are benefits and there are side effects also but that doesn't mean that all the side effects mentioned should happen for or the person who is taking it. we get those information on side effects just that it's possible and it can be handled giving a progesterone support during early pregnancy helps the baby to avoid miscarriages and also to make the baby stronger If suppose the babies placenta forms within 3 months then there is no need for you to continue progestins but if there is a risk of preterm delivery and some high risk pregnancy we allow the patient to continue as long as seventh month
Next Steps
I would advise you to continue with the progesterone keeping the side effects apart and happen to feel its effect the. u can stop them
