Nausea and GERD
Is GERD caused by LOW stomach acid or HIGH stomach acid? Because a few studies say LES don't close properly by having low stomach acid and some studies say more acid causes GERD. Please guide me I'm too stressed from this. Also, I don't eat spicy/fried foods, no caffeine/nicotine, no cold drinks but still I'm suffering from 2 months with GERD. I'm taking antacids and PPIs from 2 months but as I complete the course of medicine the nausea and reflux starts again. Please guide me here I cannot book a consultation. Thanks

GERD is caused by hyperactivity, that means a high level of acid in the stomach. LES is lower esophageal sphincter. It is normally in a state of closure. It opens only when the food has to move from the oesophagus to the stomach.   Once the food enters the stomach the sphincter closes again. So we don't get GERD even if stomach acid levels may be high. We get GERD when the sphincter doesn't close properly. What you have enumerated are the risk factors. That means if a person has these habits then his chances of getting GERD are more. But other people who don't have these factors may also get GERD. You continue your treatment. You should also adopt Lifestyle modifications. You will become alright.

No issue, if you are not able to consult then please read my thought on GERD, It will give you an idea to control the symptoms... As one of the most prevalent diseases affecting the upper digestive system, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is worth familiarising yourself with. Heartburn, which occurs frequently (at least once a week), is the disease's most defining symptom. The percentage of an adult population that is infected with the disease ranges from a few to more than 30 percent, depending on where in the world you are. Patients with GERD typically start with pharmacotherapy, but making adjustments to their lifestyle, such as their food, can have a significant impact on their condition and its management. There could be a number of causes for the illness. There are both fixed elements like age, sex, and genetics and movable ones like lifestyle, nutrition, and obesity. Excessive body weight, especially obesity, moderate/high alcohol use, smoking, postprandial/vigorous physical activity, and lack of regular physical exercise are all lifestyle risk factors that may contribute to GERD symptoms. Numerous scientific investigations have identified the following foods and drinks as GERD triggers: fatty, fried, sour, spicy, orange and grapefruit juice, tomatoes and tomato preserves, chocolate, coffee/tea, carbonated beverages, alcohol. Inconsistent mealtimes, overindulging in food, and having a heavy meal right before bedtime have all been linked to GERD. In order to effectively prevent and treat GERD with nutrition, it is crucial to identify modifiable risk factors for the disease and its symptoms.
