My son split his lip, will it scar?
My 15 month old split his lip yesterday at nursery. He is fine, but it looks nasty. Will it leave a scar? Do I need to take him to the hospital? You will need to see the picture.

Yes you do need to take it to hospital as unattended wound would cause bad scar. Kindly make it sure to get it done through facial plastic surgeon or general plastic surgeon with expertise in facial surgery. Regards Dr Punit Dubey

Your last statement is the most important one. We cannot provide a rational opinion without having a look at the clinical condition of the affected area. Please post the clinical picture if possible. That will help us to determine whether suturing will be required to close the wound if it is gaping or whether it will Heal on its own. If treated appropriately according to the condition the chances of scar formation are minimal. Regards

Yes.need to get it repaired as soon as possible. Maxillofacial surgeon(surgeon specialised exclusively only in facial surgery) would be the best person to approach. Regards Dr Ankit Arora Maxillofacial Surgeon (AIIMS New Delhi)
