My kid is asked to undergo meatotomy
My kid underwent hypospadias operation when he was 7 months old. All went well and we were asked for follow up at th age of 5. After visit we were told that my kid's urine stream is very thin(which is true) and needed to go for small incision for widening opening (meatotmy). My problem is that does it really required. If not treated then will affect his kidneys or bladder. If treated then what if it becomes too wide and cant control his urine.

Hypospadias operation can lead to narrowing of urethra as some stricture can happen, if urine stream is thin and urine is getting obstructed due to either stricture or phimosis, back pressure changes can happen and damage the kidney. There is nothing like too much widening and can't control urine. If by chance the nerve gets damage while operating then rarely it can cause incontinence but usually doesn't happen as surgeon's are well aware of anatomy of nerve, by chance patient has abnormal nerve route which is also rare, then this complication may occur but it goes further rare.
Next Steps
still u can 1 urosurgeon's opinion and if both has same opinion don't go for doctor shopping, get operated and finish it.
