Hello, I understand your concern
Your child seems to have cow milk protein allergy (CMPA)
Seen even in breastfed babies if mother consumes dairy
Recurs after stopping antibiotics due to underlying allergy
Next Steps
Don’t panic – small amounts of blood & mucus are common and usually not serious
Avoid dairy in mother’s diet (if breastfeeding) – no milk, paneer, curd, ghee for 2–4 weeks
If formula-fed – switch to extensively hydrolyzed formula (e.g., Simyl MCT, Neocate, or Nutramigen) under guidance
Continue probiotic (e.g., Saccharomyces or Bifilac)
Monitor weight gain, urine output, and activity
If symptoms persist >2 weeks or worsen:
Stool routine + occult blood + reducing substances
CRP, CBC if sick-looking
Consider stool culture if signs of infection
Health Tips
Red flags:
Large amount of blood
Repeated vomiting, poor feeding, or weight loss
High-grade fever
Signs of dehydration
In a 3.5-month-old infant, recurrent episodes of mucus and blood in stool raise concern. The temporary response to antibiotics like Taxim-O and probiotics followed by recurrence suggests an underlying issue that needs further evaluation. Possible causes include:
Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) – Common at this age, especially if baby is formula-fed or mother is consuming dairy and breastfeeding.
Infectious Colitis – Recurrent infections or antibiotic-resistant organisms.
Post-infectious inflammation – Gut may remain inflamed after initial infection.
Intussusception or anatomical issues – Rare, but should be ruled out if blood persists.
Next Steps
Stool test with microscopy, culture, and reducing substances.
Pediatrician review for possible CMPA – may need elimination of cow’s milk from baby’s/mother’s diet.
Do not repeat antibiotics frequently without confirmed bacterial infection.
Monitor for red flags: lethargy, poor feeding, abdominal distension, or persistent blood
Health Tips
Visit a pediatrician or pediatric gastroenterologist for clinical examination and stool evaluation.
👉 Consider trial of dairy-free diet (if CMPA suspected) under medical supervision.
👉 Keep a stool photo diary and note feeding history and any changes
Use hygienic water for dilution if baby is on formula milk . Mother shld decrease dairy products if baby is on breast milk .C for 2 days Go for stool test if it continue like tat
Hello parent!
Please get a stool routine, pH and reducing substances and also culture done
It’s a recurring problem, so pay attention to the source of infection if any. If formula fed - boiled and cooled water, bottle sterilisation and proper formula dilution to be done
Possibility of cow milk protein allergy can also be there if mother is breastfeeding and the problem is occurring recurrently.
Hopefully, it was not preceded by any constipation, then we will keep a possibility of anal fissure too
