You are experiencing what’s commonly called “medical or white-coat anxiety.” It happens when the body’s “fight or flight” response activates due to fear or stress around medical settings — leading to increased heart rate and blood pressure.
Next Steps
1 Breathing control: Sit comfortably, close your eyes. Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 seconds, hold for 2 seconds, and exhale gently through your mouth for 6 seconds (as if blowing out a candle). Repeat for 10 rounds twice daily, and before visiting a doctor. 2 Progressive muscle relaxation: Tense and relax each muscle group (shoulders, arms, legs) for 5 seconds, then release. This reduces physical tension and helps calm nerves. 3 Body awareness techniques: Practice mindfulness or guided relaxation for 10 minutes daily. Apps or calming music can also help.
Health Tips
Avoid overthinking the situation — remember, anxiety is just your body’s temporary stress reaction. Go for a short walk or do light stretching before appointments. Stay hydrated and maintain regular exercise — movement helps release natural calming hormones. If anxiety becomes too frequent or affects daily life, consider discussing with a clinical psychologist for additional coping strategies
