I am 26 yr old unmarried female.
I went to doctor since I could feel 1 lump in my right breast. On doing sonography, it was found out that there were 2 lumps in my right breast. One of 2.1 X 1 cm and another one of 1 cm X 0.9 cm. Also, there was one very small lump found in my left breast too. The report says BI RADS 3. Can this by any chance get converted to cancer? I am very very worried. Also, should I get operated to remove the breast?

Hi
I am Thejeswar. I am a Medical and hematooncologist.
First, understand BIRADS Score.
The Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) is a standardised system radiologists use to classify breast imaging findings. The BI-RADS score is a numerical rating assigned to mammogram or ultrasound results that helps communicate the level of suspicion for breast cancer.
The BI-RADS scoring system ranges from 0 to 6:
- BI-RADS 0: Incomplete assessment. Additional imaging or evaluation is needed.
- BI-RADS 1: Negative finding, nothing suspicious.
- BI-RADS 2: Benign finding, no evidence of cancer.
- BI-RADS 3: Probably benign finding, follow-up imaging recommended.
- BI-RADS 4: Suspicious abnormality, further evaluation or biopsy may be needed.
- BI-RADS 5: Highly suspicious of malignancy. A biopsy is strongly recommended.
- BI-RADS 6: Known biopsy-proven malignancy.
Your report says you are probably having benign lesion. Need repeat examination after 3-6 months.
