If the mother has major refractive error like myopia or hypermetropia the child has a genetic predisposition to get the same .
So early vision testing and refraction is advisable.

Lazy eye as such can't happen unless there is an inciting factor, which is often refractive error. Get your child eye screened by an Ophthalmologist after delivery and watch for major warning signs like white eye reflex and deviation of eyes. Can't be determined ante natal however

Yes the baby can have lazy eye.. as there is genetic predisposition. Having said that it's not always necessary for a baby to inherit this condition. As a pediatric ophthalmologist I would suggest you to get your infant evaluated with a pediatric ophthalmologist at 6 months of age.
