Hii, Although minimal effusion in the knee joint can be managed conservatively, but >grade 2 meniscal injury is something that might need a repair. There are always criterias to decide whether to go for the surgery or to treat conservatively like patient's age, level of pain and disability due to injury, lifestyle, physical demands including short term as well as long term. If there is pain, swelling and buckling that truelly bothers you in your daily life, then you might have to go for the surgery. Exercises  anyways have to be done pre and post surgery as there will always be lots of muscle weakness around the joint post injury and post surgery, which can be taken care of by well planned exercise program. Hope this answers your question All the best and wish you a speedy recovery

Do cold packs everyday to reduce swelling. As you told this is Grade 2 injury of posterior horn of medial meniscus then no need to go for surgery do a proper sports rehab for 6 months with a sports Physiotherapist .This will recover definitely .
