Yes you do. Do the following
1. Metformin 500mg in the morning with food (sometime people feel sickly or motions become loose with this but they do settle) and the dose can be gradually increased via your local doctor
2. Strict diabetic diet
3. Keep active and no smoking and moderate alcohol
4. Check for associated issues- Lipid profile, Blood pressure check, Liver function tests, TSH
5. Baseline check of diabetes complications- Urine Albumin Creatine ratio, Kidney function test, Eye test for retinal scan, Sensation check of feet
6. Every 6 months- HbA1C, Blood pressure check
7. Every 12 months - Urine albumin creatine ratio, Eye test for retinal scan and Sensation check of feet.
