There are hundreds of types of soaps. Some are useful for the sensitive skin, the others are not. That explains why you are getting different answers on the Internet.

Avoid soap on penis (glans/foreskin) → causes dryness. Use only water there. Soap can be used on surrounding areas (thigh, butt). Apply mild moisturizer if dry. If redness/itching persists, consult doctor.

Hello. I have reviewed your concerns regarding hygiene and the dryness you are experiencing. It is very common for standard soaps to cause irritation and excessive dryness in sensitive areas, as the skin in these regions is much thinner and more delicate than on the rest of the body. Here are the recommended steps to manage this: 1. Immediate Changes in Hygiene Avoid Standard Soaps: Most regular soaps and body washes are alkaline and contain harsh detergents or fragrances that strip away natural oils. This is the likely cause of the dryness on your foreskin and glans. Use Plain Water: For daily cleaning, plain lukewarm water is often sufficient and is the safest way to maintain hygiene without causing irritation. Gentle Cleansers: If you prefer using a product, switch to a pH-balanced, soap-free cleanser specifically designed for sensitive skin or intimate hygiene. 2. Addressing the Dryness Moisturizing: If the skin remains very dry despite stopping soap usage, you can apply a very thin layer of a fragrance-free, hypoallergenic moisturizer or plain coconut oil to the affected area after washing. Pat Dry: Do not rub the area with a towel; instead, gently pat it dry to avoid further mechanical irritation. 3. When to Seek Further Evaluation If the dryness does not improve within a week of stopping soap, or if you notice any of the following, please let me know: Persistent itching or redness. Any cracks, sores, or unusual discharge. Pain during urination or during normal activities. Summary Advice: Stop using regular soap on these sensitive areas immediately. Stick to plain water for now, and the dryness should begin to resolve naturally as the skin’s protective barrier restores itself.

Hello, In general, it is best to avoid using soap on the glans (head of the penis) and under the foreskin, as these are sensitive mucosal areas that are self-regulating, similar to the inside of the mouth. Using soap—especially scented or antibacterial ones—can strip natural oils, disturb the pH, and lead to dryness or irritation, which explains the symptoms you are experiencing. For proper hygiene, gently retract the foreskin and wash with plain lukewarm water only, then dry the area softly. For surrounding areas like the inner thighs, hips, buttocks, and even the scrotum, using a mild, unscented soap is acceptable and helps maintain cleanliness. Just ensure that soap is rinsed off properly and avoid excessive scrubbing. Also, avoid overwashing—once daily cleaning is sufficient. To manage the current dryness, stop using soap on the penis and keep the area clean and dry. You can apply a small amount of a gentle moisturizer such as Liquid paraffin or even plain coconut oil to help restore the skin barrier. Wearing loose, breathable cotton underwear will also help prevent further irritation.
Next Steps
If dryness persists or if you notice symptoms like redness, pain, cracks, discharge, or foul smell, it could indicate a condition like Balanitis or a fungal infection, and a medical evaluation would be advisable.
