HSG is X ray examination of uterus and tubes after a radio opaque dye has been injected into the uterus. SSG is sonographic evaluation of uterus and tubes. Both involve minimum instrumentation and both can be done with or without sedation or anaesthesia. That will determine the amount of pain experienced. One difference between HSG and SSG is that HSG is a permanent record which anyone can see. SSG is also a permanent record but only Sonologists read it.
