How to treat my pain? PT or splint?
Have lower jaw pain under ear and neck for 10 months now. Been to many dentist, doctors and no relief yet. Have been told it's MPDS and bruxism issue. Told to get treated for occlusion and tmj muscle tightness issue. It's constant pain for 10months. Oral surgeon told to do physical therapy. I got a question about the treatment plans. I have been to a TMJ specialist and he gave me a treatment plan for 4 months of day and night orthotics. Treatment is considered complete after 4 months. I saw another general dentist who treats TMJ patients as well. He said his way of treatment is phase wise. Phase 1 has orthotics to relax the muscle and joints for 4 to 6 months.  After that, phase 2 begin with permanent bite or jaw changes. Its like permanent bite adjustments or braces or something which are done to maintain that occlusion/position from phase 1. Not sure how long does phase 2 take.Which is good. I don't want any permanent bite changes. My tmj joint is fine. muscle issue. what to do.
