How to detect mucormycosis
In Today's Dainik Bhaskar paper there is an article on Black Fungus or Mucormycosis. There is a short list of symptoms like pain and swelling in one or both eye, headache. What are the symptoms of Mucormycosis and if someone has these symptoms, what test should be done to confirm if a person is suffering from Mucormycosis. Please help, in my district all the eye clinics are closed and doctors are not picking up calls.

In order to confirm mucormycosis a CT scan of both orbits with paranasal sinuses is required. Along with this a correlation with clinical findings will be required to confirm mucormycosis. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes and on high dose long term steroids have a tendency to develop mucormycosis. Now a days steroids are given for covid treatment hence many patients recovering from the same are facing the problem of mucormycosis. Its an emergency and ophthalmologist preferably oculoplasty surgeon should be consulted immediately.
