How does cold weather affect diabetics?
I'm on medications (oral tablets, Ryzodeg insulin etc) for diabetic control. I often find the sugar readings increase dramatically (fasting of 115 in summer and goes to 210 in winter, for the same food and exercises). Often I need to increase dosage of insulin to 3 times plus compared to summer time dosage of 12 units in the afternoon. However I've not increased Metformin dosage, remains at 500 mg 1-0-1. Recently I read an article which stated that in winter to keep the body warm, the metabolism increases, which in turn reduces blood sugar levels and in turn liver releases glucagon into blood Will my problem be solved by enhancing the dosage of Metformin?
