Hello Cough and cold in this age are usually viral and self-limiting. Use steam inhalation, nasal saline drops, warm fluids, and natural remedies like ajwain potli. Keep the baby hydrated and well-rested. Avoid cough syrups and honey.
Next Steps
Steam Inhalation (Indirect): Run hot water in bathroom and sit with baby for 10–15 minutes, Or use a humidifier in the room - Helps loosen mucus and ease nasal congestion Saline Nasal Drops: 2 drops per nostril every 4–6 hours - Clears nasal blockage and helps feeding/sleeping Elevate Head During Sleep: Slightly raise head side of mattress or use a towel under pillow - Helps reduce postnasal drip and cough at night Warm Fluids (Age-appropriate): Warm water sips, Lukewarm soup or dal water - Helps soothe throat and keeps baby hydrated Ajwain Potli : Dry roast ajwain (carom seeds), wrap in clean cloth, make a small pouch. Let it cool slightly, then place near chest/nose (not on skin) to help relieve congestion Turmeric + Ghee on Chest: Warm a little turmeric with ghee, apply gently on chest/back - Acts as a mild balm – do not apply if baby has sensitive skin Avoid: No honey (safe only after 1 year, but still use cautiously) No OTC cough syrups (not recommended below 2 years) Avoid exposure to smoke, dust, strong perfumes No vapor rubs on face/nose – may irritate airways
Health Tips
Red flags: Fever > 100.4°F (38°C) lasting more than 3 days Fast breathing, chest indrawing, grunting Refusal to feed, lethargy Wheezing or persistent vomiting Cough > 10–14 days

Hi. Honey from a good brand can be given to children above 1 year of age. 1 tsp twice a day should be good. Generally the cough and cold is going to stay until the virus leaves the body, and for a time after as well. Few things work. Feed the baby warm food, easy to swallow- khichdi, pongal or bisibelebath, soup. Gentle spices like ginger, black pepper, cumin, clove helps. A simple tea stewed with ginger, cloves, cinnamon, bayleaf and sweetened a bit can help with throat irritation.
Next Steps
Wash hands before and after handling the baby.
Health Tips
If there is an abrupt change in the voice of the baby or you hear a whistling sound as the baby breathes, take them to the hospital immediately. watch for increased breathing rate, chest going inside while breathing excessively.

Thanks for your question. Mild colds are common at this age and usually settle on their own. You can give small amounts of turmeric with honey, since your baby is over one year old, but use caution and just a little. For Ajwain, gentle steam (not directly close to the baby) or placing Ajwain in a cloth nearby is safe. Keep your baby hydrated and use a cool-mist humidifier or saline nasal drops for stuffy nose Other safe home remedies: Use a cool-mist humidifier in the room. Keep your baby well-hydrated (water, breastmilk, or formula as appropriate). Saline nasal drops can help clear nasal passages.
Next Steps
If your baby has fast or difficult breathing, high fever, poor feeding, or gets unusually sleepy or irritable, please visit the clinic for a checkup.
