High blood sugar while going for ivf
I am a type 2 diabetic since 5 years and am gojng for ivf procedure. My blood sugar has recently been very high around 350 and hba1c at 9. I have been advised to have glycomet sr 500 twice a day after meal and also to continue that while ivf treatment. I wanted to check if it is safe to have glycomet while going for ivf procedure i.e will it bring sugar level down or impact embryo implantation? My other tests are fine like tsh prolactin cbc etc.

Yes. It is safe. Kindly take the tablets regularly. Do review with your doctor after a week with sugar levels. 350 is quite high so need to bring it down soon Ensure that you get a renal function test, urine routine with urine Protein dipstick, ecg and echo done before IVF. You might require insulin if sugars don't get controlled with tablets. I am telling this so that you can mentally prepare yourself for the same, if required Your diet and exercise is crucial in sugar control and general well being. Kindly enroll onto a diet program with calorie restricted diet. Start any form of daily exercise. Start slow and exercise for 5 days a week if feasible. Even walking or yoga will help Take care and all the best

Yes, Glycomet SR 500 is generally safe during IVF and does not affect embryo implantation. It may even support better outcomes in women with diabetes or PCOS. Your sugar levels (350 mg/dL, HbA1c 9%) are too high for safe IVF. Please consult your doctor to adjust treatment—additional medicines or insulin may be needed. Aim to bring HbA1c below 7% before embryo transfer. Continue Glycomet as advised, monitor sugars regularly, and follow a diabetic-friendly diet. High sugars can reduce IVF success.
