HIV transmission through oral sex is rare but possible, especially if there are cuts, sores, or bleeding gums in the mouth. The risk increases if the HIV-positive partner has a high viral load and if blood, semen, or vaginal fluids come into contact with open wounds or inflamed tissues. While documented cases exist, oral transmission is significantly less common than through unprotected vaginal or anal sex.
